Transporting Somerset (Transport)

  • Type of SEND provision:

Description

Transporting Somerset provides home to school transport on behalf of the Children and Young Peoples Directorate of Somerset County Council.

All drivers and escorts are checked through the Criminal Records Bureau and receive training from us in Passenger Care, Disability Awareness, Moving and Handling People and Wheelchairs, Emergency Aid, Child Protection and Behaviour Management.

Special educational needs and disabilites information

All schools, childcare and SEND providers must make their policy and provision for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) available on their website. This is usually published in the provider's SEN information report. This link takes you to where you can find this provider's SEN information report.

If you cannot find what you are looking for or you have questions about the provider's SEN provision, you should contact the provider directly.

We usually hold some information about a provider's policy and provision and you can find what we do hold here.

General info

Further information

  • Are you eligible
  • Education transport for pupils requiring special arrangements. The decision to provide transport is made by the SEN Group based on certain criteria.

  • How to access
  • Before transport is arranged, you will be contacted by the Transport Field Officer who will carry out a telephone risk assessment with you. This is to ensure that the arrangements we make to transport your child are appropriate for their needs.

From the risk assessment we will be able to ascertain what level of support your child will need on the transport and arrange for any specialised or additional safety equipment to be provided to the transport provider.

  • When is it available
  • Transport is provided at the beginning and end of the official school day from a defined pick up and setting down point, not necessarily the home address. Journeys outside of the official school day remain the responsibility of the parents/carers.
