Somerset Parent Carer Forum (SPCF)

  • Type of SEND provision:

Description

The Somerset Parent Carer Forum began in October 2012 with an independent group of parent carers united by their experiences, passion and commitment to ensuring that parent carers are invited and empowered to participate in decision making in the Local Authority, Health Service and ultimately Government.

Our Aspirations

To give a voice to Parent Carers in Somerset (or neighbouring counties where they live on the border and use the services in Somerset) of Children and Young People aged 0 to 25 years with disabilities and/or additional needs by being the platform for their views. The forum aims to be a leading group in raising awareness of, and sharing information on, the issues and rights of children and young people with disabilities and/or additional needs and their families.

We want to invite parent carers to become members of our forum and join together with existing parent carers to share information, their views and experiences of the children’s and young person’s services (0 to 25 years) they already use or would like to use in the future.

We work together in partnership with various agencies to contribute to the development of services in order to improve and enhance the experiences and opportunities of children and young people with additional needs or disability by putting parents/carers and families at the heart of decision making.

As such we act as a contact point for Local Authority and Health requests for consultation, parent involvement or participation in any work streams. We aim to work in partnership with all other groups and organisations that support parent/carers of children and young people with disabilities and/or additional needs.

A local partnership agreement between the Parent Carer Forum, Somerset County Council and Somerset Clinical Commisioning Group (CCG) has been agreed which sets out the roles, responsibilities and accountabilities of all partners. You can read the agreement here.

Special educational needs and disabilites information

All schools, childcare and SEND providers must make their policy and provision for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) available on their website. This is usually published in the provider's SEN information report. This link takes you to where you can find this provider's SEN information report.

If you cannot find what you are looking for or you have questions about the provider's SEN provision, you should contact the provider directly.

We usually hold some information about a provider's policy and provision and you can find what we do hold here.
