Primary Mental Health Link Worker Service

  • Type of SEND provision:

Description

The Primary Mental Health Link Workers (PMHLW) work alongside the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Somerset. The PMHLW’s come from a variety of backgrounds which can include Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Psychology.

All PMHLW have experience in assessing and treating young people who may be experiencing emotional health difficulties which can be supported and managed to avoid the need for specialist mental health services involvement.

PMHLW work very closely with secondary schools  across Somerset and will provide consultation and advice to professionals who are working with young people, aged 11 to 18 years old, to ensure that the right support is being given, at the right time by the correct service.

  • How to access
  • The PMHLW service is accessed via referrals made to CAMHS Single Point of Access (SPA). The types of issues that the PMHLW team will work with include self harm, anxiety, low self esteem, lack of confidence, low mood and school related difficulties.

Young people allocated to the PMHLW service will be offered a face to face assessment which will take approximately one and a half hours. You will then agree a plan of action which may include some short term one to one, family work, or an onward referral to another service depending on level of need.
