Description

The Physical Impairment and Medical Support Team (PIMS) is part of the SPOT (Sensory, Physical and Occupational Therapy) service, SEND and Inclusion support Somerset. The PIMS Team works with children and young people (CYP) from birth up to 18 years old, and advises on support for young people up to 25 in educational setting.

The Physical Impairment and Medical Support Team provides educational support for any child who lives in Somerset and has a confirmed diagnosis of a physical impairment or medical requirements which impact their ability to access education.

We are a team of advisory teachers, we have all held the role of Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) in either a nursery, primary, middle, secondary or post 16 settings. All members of our team have had direct experience in supporting the needs of children and young people with a wide range of physical and medical conditions.

Special Educational Needs Assistive Technology Advisory Service (SENATAS) is part of our team and includes an IT Advisor and Support Assistant Advisor who have had over 20 years’ experience of providing support in education settings for pupils with complex needs. This is an integral part of PIMS and offers an assessment and advisory service for all children and young people with complex needs, who may require alternative recording methods or communication aids.

We visit children and young people in their homes, pre-school settings, schools and colleges.
