Somerset urgently needs more foster families, including a number of long term, specialist foster homes for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

Experience or an understanding of autism and learning disabilities would be helpful, but is not essential as training will be provided.

Great communication skills and a willingness to learn are equally important, but what matters most is that our carers have the space, time and resilience to embrace caring for a child with additional or complex needs, and are able to work alongside professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes for the child.

This is a rewarding yet challenging role, but you will be supported every step of the way with on-going training and support, plus a dedicated Supervising Social Worker.
Our foster carers also receive a weekly fee to reflect their skills and the placement they offer, plus a weekly allowance to cover the costs associated with the care of that child – such as food, clothing, activities etc..

If you think you could offer a stable home to a child in need, or would just like to find out more, contact our team today on 0800 587 9900 or visit the website www.fosteringinsomerset.org.uk. We’d love to hear from anyone who feels they might be able to foster a Somerset child, on a long or short term basis.
