If you are between 16 and 21 and in, or were in, the care of Somerset County Council on or after your 16th birthday, you are entitled to some sort of support, advice or guidance. You may also be entitled to advice and guidance from somewhere else, if you were the subject of a Special Guardianship Order and were in the care of a local authority immediately before the order was made, or were fostered or provided with accommodation in other ways. This support, advice or guidance could last until you are 21, or if you are continuing in, or resuming further or higher education, until you are 25. The type of support you are entitled to will depend on your personal circumstances. Leaving Care staff are there to help you get the right sort of help. Leaving Care teams are based in Taunton, Bridgwater, Yeovil and Shepton Mallet. Any young person who receives or wants a Leaving Care service is entitled to representation if they need it. They are also entitled to use the Council’s complaints procedures if they are unhappy with the outcome of their contact with the service. Please phone the Somerset Direct Children and Young People’s Team on 0300 123 2224 if you need to discuss things in more detail. You can find support, advice and guidance information on the Somerset County Council Leaving care page or see A Guide to Leaving Care in Somerset.
