Somerset County Council and NHS Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group are working in partnership to improve Somerset’s services for children and young people (aged 0 to 25) with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). The work taking place is outlined within the Written Statement of Action (WSoA) and is divided into Improvement Priority (IP) areas.

As part of IP5 ‘make it easier for those with Autism Spectrum Conditions to get diagnosed and supported’, work is progressing with the aim for any child in Somerset who needs an autism and/or an Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) assessment to be able to access one in a timely manner.

Further to the article in SEND News published on 1 April called ‘Redesigning Autism and ADHD Assessment Pathways’, an open letter has been published today (17 June) to provide an update to parents and carers in Somerset. You can read about the new Autism and ADHD pre-assessment pathway documents and read the open letter here
