SEND Citizen Portal
We know that parent carers and young people can be busy and want to see the progress of their request for a statutory assessment at a time which suits them. From January 2020 we have launched the SEND Citizen Portal to enable you to access the information securely online.

The Citizen Portal is a secure website where sensitive data and information can be shared safely. The Portal is already used by practitioners as part of the EHC needs assessment process to share information.

Once the Local Authority have agreed to assess your son or daughter for an EHC needs assessment you will be able to track the progress of the assessment using the Citizen Portal. A factsheet will be sent to you at this stage which explains how to access the portal.

You can find guidance on using the SEND Citizen Portal here.

The use of the Citizen Portal is being rolled out to parents, carers and young people over the age of 16. To start with this will be for all new requests, but during this year we will be working to make this available for all EHCP’s issued in Somerset. Eventually our aim is that both EHCP’s and the annual review will be accessible through the portal. In the meantime, you can still get updates through our Contact Centre.

We know some parent carers and young people will not want to use the portal and there are other ways you can contact us.

Phone us through our Contact Centre on 0300 123 2224

The Statutory SEND Team and Somerset County Council Contact Centre have worked together to ensure the trained Advisors can provide advice, support, guidance and signposting for families and young people. If they cannot answer your question your allocated caseworker will return the call within 5 working days.

Our phone lines are open 8am to 6pm Monday and 8.30am to 5.30pm Tuesday to Friday providing additional access to information for families.

Feedback to the team so far

“It’s quick and simple.”

“It provided me and my husband with the most up-to-date status of where the process is and we can clearly see who is providing input and the timescales involved.”

“Having a child who has special educational needs can be challenging and exhausting in itself (although brings many rewards), but we personally as parents will do anything to assist our child and obtain what he needs as quickly and effectively as possible. Therefore, waiting can be very frustrating. So to see clearly that actions are taking place, provides reassurance.”
