The Primary Mental Health Link Workers (PMHLWs) work alongside the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Somerset. They come from a variety of backgrounds which can include nursing, social work, occupational therapy or psychology.
All PMHLWs have experience in assessing and treating young people who may be experiencing emotional health difficulties, which can be supported and managed to avoid the need for involving specialist mental health services.
PMHLWs work very closely with secondary schools across Somerset and will provide consultation and advice to professionals who work with young people, aged 11 to 18 years old, to make sure the right support is being given, at the right time by the right service.
These are some of the types of issues that the PMHLW team will work with
- Self harm
- Low self esteem
- Lack of confidence
- Low mood
- School related difficulties
Young people referred to the service will be offered a face-to-face assessment, which will take about one and a half hours.
You will then agree a plan of action, which may include some short-term one-to-one or family work, or another referral to a different service, depending on what you need.
