Independent Support is a programme to support young people and their parents during the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) reforms.

Under new legislation, children with Special Educational Needs (SEND) are required to transition from different care plans to a new model. The new model is an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan.

Independent Supporters help children and young people gather information for drafting their EHC plan. They are recruited through the programme which is managed by the Council for Disabled Children (CDC). The programme is funded by the government for a two year period.
