Getting help with the cost of childcare

There are a variety of ways to get help with the cost of childcare. To check what help you could get with childcare costs please visit the Childcare Choices website.

All three and four-year olds are entitled to 15 hours of free early years entitlement a week, totalling 570 hours each year. This is irrespective of your family income or circumstances.

This entitlement must be used with an Ofsted registered provider or childminder, and the provider must be registered with Somerset County Council to offer the early years entitlement. To find out more visit the ‘Early years entitlement‘ page on the County Council website or phone the Entitlements team on 01823 357039.

Two-year olds who meet the eligibility criteria can also access funding. For more information about the criteria for 2 year olds, please see our Funding for 2 year olds page.

From September 2017, some working parents became entitled to an extra 15 hours a week of early education and childcare for their three and four-year olds on top of the previous offer. This is called the extended entitlement. For more information on the eligibility criteria, please see our 30 hours funded childcare page.
