The early years foundation stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of your child from birth to 5 years old. All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes. There are a range of different services to support children and their families. The Early Years Commissioning Team has duties under the Childcare Acts of 2006 and 2016 to ensure that there are a sufficient number of sustainable and high quality childcare places for children aged 0 to 19 and their families. There are a sufficient number of childcare places in an area if there are enough childcare places available to meet the needs of working parents, and enough places for all eligible children to take up the Early Years Entitlement. The team works with childminders, pre-schools, playgroups, day nurseries, out of school clubs and schools. The information in this section is designed to help you make an informed decision based on what services are available across Somerset. You can search to find providers who are right for you.
