Childcare

Find childcare options and children's centres

Finding the right childcare for your child is important.

All 3 and 4 year olds can have up to 15 hours of funded childcare a week for up to 38 weeks a year. This can also be used as 570 hours stretched over up to 52 weeks.

If both parents work at least 16 hours a week you may also be entitled to up to 30 hours of funded childcare.

If you are finding it hard to find childcare you can phone 0300 123 2224 or email childrens@somerset.gov.uk

About Childcare

Here are some things to ask about.

  • At what times will I need childcare?
  • Where do I want childcare? Should it be near my workplace, near my home, near my place of study or near my child’s school?
  • What sort of environment will be best for my child? Should it be in someone else’s home, with lots of other children or in smaller environment?

If you are struggling to find the right childcare, the County Council has a Childcare Finder service, who will look at your requirements and use their extensive knowledge of childcare provision in your area to help you find the best options. This is a free, professional and impartial service.
